異丙基-β-D-硫代半乳糖苷(IPTG，CAS: 367-93-1)是誘導(dǎo)大腸桿菌乳糖操縱子酶合成的強(qiáng)力誘導(dǎo)物. 在培養(yǎng)基中加入該物10-4克分子時(shí)，即可通過(guò)存在于大腸桿菌細(xì)胞膜中的微量半乳糖苷滲透酶而被參入至細(xì)菌體內(nèi). 此外, 在高濃度下使用時(shí), 因它仍能透過(guò)缺少半乳糖苷滲透酶的細(xì)胞, 因而常被用于對(duì)缺少滲透酶的菌株的誘導(dǎo)實(shí)驗(yàn). IPTG的這種性質(zhì)決定了他在生物領(lǐng)域有著極為廣泛的應(yīng)用.
